The
Unique Together Community Mosaic Mural
In
the Spring of 2010, members of the public made tiles for the
Mural at Waterloo Public Square, at the
Kitchener Market and in UpTown
Gallery. The final tiles were created by a Grade 3 class
at Westvale Public School.
The Mural was displayed in UpTown Gallery in the Summer of
2010. The project was part of the Animate the Streets
arts event that received funding from the Waterloo
Region Arts
Fund.
This project
it is a metaphor for a community of interconnected unique
individuals. Each tile is unique and its design interconnects
with the tiles around it. Participants
were given
a simple template, marker and paper to make a tile for the
mural.
The mural
was conceived by Nicole Waddick and was inspired by the ancient
Japanese geometric pattern design called karakusa.
